Your child becomes a hero of the Fairy Kingdom! A personalised A4 landscape hardcover storybook, illustrated from your photos (or your description) and written in English or Afrikaans.
The story: On a sunny picnic at Kirstenbosch, under Table Mountain, your child finds a long, sparkly silver hair under a big pink protea. Zip! Down flies Lila, a tiny fairy riding a green sunbird: the hair belongs to Starlight, the Fairy Kingdom’s baby unicorn – and she’s lost. A pinch of fairy dust and WHOOSH! everyone – plus any grown-ups and the family pet you add – shrinks as small as a ladybird, and the tree-top walkway turns into a shimmering rainbow bridge. In the Fairy Kingdom the proteas are as tall as houses, but without Starlight its colours are fading. Your child follows tiny sparkling hoof prints up the mountain and into the soft white “tablecloth” cloud, and finds Starlight shivering under a sugarbush, her mane as pale as the mist. So your child gives her colours from the flowers – pink from a protea, orange from a pincushion, yellow from a daisy – and Swish! a rainbow mane! The whole kingdom shines again, the fairies dance, Starlight gives everyone a ride, and the Fairy Queen gives your child a tiny flower crown. Then WHOOSH! it’s back to the picnic blanket for rooibos tea, with a rainbow over Table Mountain. (In the Ages 6–8 book there’s more: a sleepy tortoise on the mountain path, Starlight’s own story of how she got lost, a reunion with her mommy, a fairy party with honey cake on leaf plates and dew drops to drink, being made an honorary fairy, koeksister crumbs saved for the sunbird, and one last rainbow-coloured hair saying hello on the way home.) A gentle, sparkly story about kindness and sharing – “colours are brightest when we share them” – with nothing scary, and everyone ends up happy and safe.
