Your child goes on a real seaside treasure hunt! A personalised A4 landscape hardcover storybook, illustrated from your photos (or your description) and written in English or Afrikaans.
The story: On holiday in Paternoster on the West Coast, with its white cottages and bright fishing boats, your child finds an old bottle in the kelp with a treasure map inside – and a big red X! SQUAWK! Captain Koos, a seagull in a tiny pirate hat, explains that it belongs to Pirate Pearl, the kindest pirate who ever sailed the West Coast. Everyone – plus any grown-ups and the family pet you add – puts on bright orange life jackets, and Oom Piet the fisherman rows them across the calm blue sea, with three little Heaviside’s dolphins leaping alongside. On Pearl Island, African penguins in knitted jerseys waddle down the rocks to show the way to the red-and-white lighthouse. Your child counts “Ten steps to the sea!”, digs up a treasure chest with a shell-shaped keyhole and finds the golden key hidden in a spiral shell. Inside: shiny shells, sea glass, pearls – and a letter from Pirate Pearl: “Treasure is best when it is shared.” So your child shares it with everyone, and the day ends with snoek on the braai at sunset and sleep to the blink of the lighthouse. (In the Ages 6–8 book there’s more: a sandcastle with a moat, the story of Pirate Pearl, more clues, shell necklaces threaded on Oom Piet’s fishing string, a thank-you drawing left in the chest for the next treasure hunter, roosterkoek off the coals, and a little old lady in a stripy jersey who winks…) A gentle, cosy story about kindness, sharing and teamwork – no scary pirates, no sword fights, and everyone ends up happy and safe.
