Your child travels back to the time of the dinosaurs! A personalised A4 landscape hardcover storybook, illustrated from your photos (or your description) and written in English or Afrikaans.
The story: On a camping trip in the Golden Gate mountains of the Free State, where the sandstone cliffs glow orange and gold and the braai is crackling, Ranger Thandi shows your child a real dinosaur footprint in the rock. Then your child finds a warm, speckly egg… CRACK! Out pops Massie, a baby Massospondylus – a real South African dinosaur – who is lost and wants her mommy. The eggshell begins to glow and WHOOSH! everyone – plus any grown-ups and the family pet you add – lands in the time of the dinosaurs, with giant ferns and a warm, misty river. Your child follows a trail of little footprints, shares juicy red berries with a family of tiny-tusked dinosaurs no bigger than chickens, and rides across the river on the back of a gentle long-necked giant. WHEEE! At last, by a waterfall, they find Massie’s nest – and a big, happy dinosaur nuzzle. Massie gives everyone a shiny pebble to remember her by, and WHOOSH! it’s back to the campsite for hot chocolate and rusks under the stars. (In the Ages 6–8 book there’s more: a friendly flying pterosaur who points the way, fern-leaf umbrellas in a warm rain shower, a sleepy Massie carried in loving arms, the “Thula Baba” lullaby, the happy dinosaur dance with Massie’s little brothers and sisters, Ranger Thandi’s fossil rule “we look, we take photos, but we always leave them where we found them”, and a tiny fossil footprint on the last walk of the holiday.) A gentle, cosy story about kindness, helping and curiosity – the dinosaurs are all friendly, nothing scary, and everyone ends up happy and safe.
